Twitter is back!
Why didn’t anyone tell me?
In my continuous evolution, I frequently adjust the marketing blueprints for my brands. It was during one of these planning sessions that I realized that Twitter is back.
When I joined Twitter in June of 2009, I had no idea what I was going to do with it. During that time, it was limited to 140 characters. Anyone who knows me can attest to the fact that I find it difficult to express myself in such an abbreviated manner. Additionally, I detest deciphering codes such as “hru”, “rofl”, “brb” and others. I thought that “LOL” would have been the limit.
Eventually, I resigned myself to following celebrities on Twitter as my friends had nothing interesting going on. I read their Tweets that were redundant as I had already seen the story on television or in entertainment articles. I then realized that this medium was singlehandedly destroying the English Language. It was also making a new generation of socially inept people who were finding it increasingly difficult to have real conversations with others. It was at this moment I set Twitter aside.
Fast forward to 2022. I now find myself in an era of digital and thus visual influence. Having added writer, blogger and NFT creator to my portfolio, I realized that I should give Twitter a second look. I dusted-off my account and integrated it into my marketing arsenal. At this point, I had been utilizing my personal website, Dwayneadderley.com (shameless plug), Facebook and Instagram as platforms for my work.
I was pleasantly surprised to find so many of my fellow creators on Twitter. There were contributors from my writing bases of Medium and Vocal there. I was thrilled to see that communities of writers had been established. These writers are unselfish in donating their pages to promote other writers, bloggers, and creators. Likewise, Twitter has a vibrant community of NFT creators, collectors, and promoters. This was the perfect place for NFTbahamas (another shameless plug) to be highlighted.
Twitter had expanded its character count to a whopping 280 characters. They had introduced Twitter Spaces, which allows for live conversations. Tips could now be received by users, including the option to be paid via Bitcoin. The quality of uploaded photos and videos were improved and given more space to be viewed. One of the best features now offered is the option to remove followers without blocking them. This will ensure you do not directly upset any of your fans, just mildly offend them.
They have also added Twitter Blue, a paid subscription service that allows customization, the ability to undo Tweets, and the reading of some news articles without advertisements. Twitter Blue permits the uploading of longer videos too.
As you can see, this is not your father’s account. Well, if your father used Twitter back in the day. Let me take this opportunity to commend Twitter for their modernization. I will also use this article to apologize to them for treating their platform like a dinosaur whose time had passed.
